My first vote was a big YES to the republic at the referendum 3 years ago!!! One of the few issues I have a strong view on - I'll go with the WTS on this one :-)

sir cliff richard is one of the singers universally loved by the 40+ generation (certainly here in the uk) ... that is unless that 40+er is one of jehovahs witnesses.. doubtless there are some jws who do enjoy cliffs music, but i have always been surprised by the widespread dislike of him within the jw community.. this is in stark contrast to the widespread love for his former band - the shadows - the presence of one of their cds being a feature in a very high percentage of british jw homes.. reason quoted to me.

when i first came into the truthtm in the early 80s, it was explained to me that cliff had connections with jws (if i remember right - his mother and sister were baptised).. cliff had shown an interest in the truthtm, had a bible study with hank and had been to many meetings.

he had allegedly been spotted at one of our districts conventions at twickenham, walking around in a bright pink suit.

Borgfree - Well done! I ended up just making random marks with a highlighter! That was real quick!

BluesBro - LOL... Well, I'd say I had as good a handle on the concepts and ideas as anyone... Just never wanted to memorise them all (don't know my times tables either, but landed in the 90th Percentile at uni)

AMcC - Wouldn't bother cheating on anything worthwhile like school. To much grief in the end that get's you nowhere in the end... Playing games with the JW stuff at least lets you have a laugh!

BX - Wow, that's getting elaborate! At least you have somthing to amuse yurself with doing the 'work'!

Guest 77 - Yeah, I'm caught and facing the great pit of eternal death down the local crematorium... Smart or Dumb? Well, being out there was Dumb. Stopping going out was Smart. Tricking around was the learning process.

SS - Going on RV's alone (Mc Donalds) or with my wife (ie: home, and to bed if very lucky!) was even better!

SaintSatan - The Sunday Times of Perth, Western Australia, a News Corp paper. 3 March, 2002, p.48. I'd scan it, but my scanner's too small and it's just not important enough! It was a paid advertisment of course, however there's no disclosure of which organiosation published it. They advertise an EG White book, so I suppose it may be SDA.

Joseph - then you've very lucky!! There are too many moronic, right wing facists in cloaks in other places. Imported direct from the US for the most part. JW are quite moderate by overall standards of loony religions. I like your observation about WTS and Koalas!

I had a little secret rebelion I kept up all the way through my JW time! I refused to learn the books of the bible or to remember scriptures!!! Even when I was a genuine, super-zelous MS!!

For example, I might know a verse word for word, and I might know the referece, but there's only about 5 that I can connect - just enough not to get caught out too often!!!!

I could recite the books from Genesis to Song of Solomon and from Matthew to 2 Corinthians (and knew anything else Greek sounding was right at the back), but that was about it. (I got that far with extensive compulsary one-on-one coaching from an elderly sister when I was 10).

I used to have a whole lot of work-arounds and tricks for getting through and I seldom got caught-out, if I did I just pretended to be having a dumb moment! Like I'd watch to see where a speaker opened his bible for a book like Nehamiah, open mine about the same place and just flick...

And the silly think was, I was taken serioulsy! What a joke! I'd have been an elder by now for sure if I'd have stayed around. What a wanker I was...

Toward the end, I started to take advantage of leading the FS group. I'd take the sacrifice of working alone so everyone else could have a partner (after carfully arranging the group to make odd numbers). Then I'd walk to the door and just stand there. If I was being watched, I'd knock on the bricks. It worked but the only interesting part of it was manipulating the group so I could play my games and get away with it.

So, if your FS leader does odd things... talk to him, he may be an apostate too!!!! ;-)

How many of you had readings of the text in school

Every Tuesday morining in Primary School (Grade 1-7) at 10:40 we had 'Scripture'. Priests, Nuns and other Ministers used to decend on the school for their 20 minute time slot. At some schools there wasn't a JW who came, but usually there was someone who'd claim the time. The last Sister who took my Scripture class was an excellent lady who was really frustrated at my seeming learning disability at learning the books of the bible!! Got got Genisis to Song of Solomon and Mathew to 2 Coninthians by 7th Grade and never, ever got any further!!! Even as an MS!

Now I reckon I was smarter in 7th Grade! Should have stuck to my initial assessment that it was silly and a waste of brain space!

Following is a detailed analysis (including diagrams) of the statue of Daniel 2 and the beasts of Daniel 7 with commentary about Babylon, Medo Persia, Greece, Rome and a chronology of the evils of the US and the European powers (Revelation 13) culminating in the idea that the world will 'trade-off their [religious] liberties for security and law-and-order' just before the end of the world.

I know there've always been others with similar, but more aggressive views than the JW, like SDA and Christadelphians, but it got me to thinking how the softer line on 1914, Sign's of the End and all that could affect the more fundamentalist JWs who really believe in all that stuff.

I wonder how many suspect the slow dropping of those core doctrines are part of a Satan-led apostasy 'in headquarters' that results in a 'special test' from within the Congregation?

Seeing a more 'liberalised' (ie: really, really BAD) line on the End of the World means that right at the end, the Bros are 'taking an unusual path'. So, give lip service to the current trend in the Organisation, but keep an eye on what those who're 'close to the truth' are saying, because Jehovah may be using them to keep ‘the warnings’ being published while the Brothers prepare for the persecution (or some such muddled thinking)...

So, while apostates generally attack the WTS from the socio-political, liberal 'Left'; I wonder if the WTS is just as vulnerable from the conservative 'Right'?

I can't see too many JW 'crossing the street' to some other sect like that, but I wonder how many might just be influenced and 'strengthened' in their traditional JW views by seeing familiar and comfortable views like that being published? How many might just sneak off that $10 for the EG White book?

On the other hand, it could be that FRED HALL, Bibleman and You Know have combined resources and are engaging in a global press campaign to keep the 'Good News' in the news???

Can I Sue? Any Advice?

i was woundering what my chances are of suing either the elders or wt over this:.

i was df'd in another congregation not the one i went today for public meeting and wt study(what a joke those 2 meetings were).. anyway i sat directly in the front right in front of the speaker.

the reader of the wt was on my appeal committee(another joke).. as i was leaving after the final prayer the sister in back of me introduced her self and i started to talk to her after she aproached me first, right away the elder who was on the appeal committee stops the sister from talking to me by interupting our conversation and annouced to her in front of me that it was not proper for her to talk to me since i was disfellowshipped.. i then proceeded to leave out the back when as i'm leaving another brother holds out the right hand of fellowship and we proceed to share greetings at which time a different elder rudely interupts our conversation and tells the brother not to talk to me because i was df'd.. i think these elders may have violated my rights since i have never been a member of that congregtion and they by their words caused other to veiw me as evil with out proper cause.. any legal eagles can tell my options?.

for every person, there seem to be things they just don't understand.

for me, it's nationalism in more than homeopathic doses.

i wouldn't have expected to meet that much nationalism on an ex-jw board, but then, life holds many surprises.
